Admission

You may be dropped off at the main entrance located on 66th Avenue. Enter the Admitting Department in the main lobby. In the Admitting Office, you will be asked to supply your insurance and other information. You will also be asked to sign standard consent forms for admission.


What to Bring

You may wish to bring the following items from home:


  • list of medications you take
  • pajamas, robe and slippers
  • eyeglasses
  • dentures and hearing aids
  • toothpaste and toothbrush
  • comb, hairbrush, shampoo
  • deodorant
  • soap
  • razor and shaving cream
  • notebook, pen or pencil
  • phone numbers of your family and friends


What Not to Bring

If you have valuables such as jewelry and cash, please give them to a relative or friend to take care of during your stay. You may want to have a few dollars in cash with you, but please do not bring more than that to the hospital. There are no secure storage facilities for your valuables while you are in the hospital. Long Island Jewish Forest Hills cannot be responsible for any valuables kept in your room.


If you have any personal property being held by our Security Department, please be sure to pick it up before leaving the hospital.


Cafeteria

The Harvest Café is located in the main lobby.


Hours:

7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.


Vending machines with a variety of snacks and drinks are also located in the café.


Chaplaincy

The hospital chaplain is available at ext. 1826 for spiritual guidance and support. Chaplains are available in all denominations to meet your needs. To arrange for a visit from the chaplain, please ask your nurse for help. In an emergency, dial the operator and request the nursing supervisor. 


Electrical Appliances

Electrical appliances including electric razors, hair dryers, fans, clocks, radios or TVs are not permitted in patient rooms. You may only use battery-operated devices.


Fire Safety

Fire drills are held regularly. Please stay in your room until the drill is complete.


Language and Communication Access Services (LCAS)

The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Literacy (ODIHL) provides Language and Communication Access Services for people with limited English proficiency (LEP) or for people who prefer to have their health information provided in a language other than English. Free medical interpretation and document translation services are available 24/7.


Sign language interpretation services for deaf and hearing-impaired patients and specific communication tools for speech-impaired patients are also available. Language assistance coordinators at each facility provide support and guidance and ensure that our patients’ unique communication needs are met. For more information, please call 516-881-7081.


Lost and Found

To report missing or lost items, notify the nursing staff or call the Security Department at ext. 4104.


Mail

Mail is delivered to your room by volunteers on a daily basis and is forwarded to your home after discharge.


Meal Service

Breakfast is served between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Lunch follows between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Dinner is served between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. A dietetic technician or nutritionist will help you plan your meals. Kosher meals are available upon request.


Medicines

Leave your medications at home. While you are in the hospital, medications will be prescribed and provided for you.


Parking

Parking is available at reasonable, hourly rates in a three-story parking garage located on the 66th Avenue side of the hospital. The parking garage is independently owned and operated by SP, Inc.


Patient Library

The hospital maintains a patient library with over 150 books that have been generously donated by local libraries. Books may remain checked out until discharge. To borrow a book, contact Volunteer Services at ext. 4210.


Rapid Response Team

The Rapid Response Team is a group of specially trained individuals who quickly check the condition of the patient and provide help before there is a medical emergency. Call 33 from the patient’s room. The hospital operator will ask for information and activate a Rapid Response Team.


Smoking

Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the hospital or hospital property. For patients who are smokers, “Quit-For-Keeps” is an outstanding program run by the Northwell Health located at 225 Community Dr., South Entrance, Great Neck. For more information about this program, call 516-466-1980.


Surgical Waiting Room

The Surgical waiting room is located on the fourth floor. The Surgical Information Service will inform family members of your progress.


Your Room

Long Island Jewish Forest Hills offers private and semi-private rooms. Patients are assigned rooms as they become available. If you request and receive a private room, additional charges, not reimbursed by your insurance company, may apply.
